“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.”
(Psalm 139:14 NKJV)
Am I beautiful? The Evil Queen asked the mirror.
I ask myself the same thing every day.
Do I have good or bad hair?
Am I healthy or overweight?
Am I a failure?
For many neurodivergent individuals, these questions aren’t just passing thoughts. They echo in our minds, shaped by years of stigma, social isolation, and misunderstanding. Society sets a standard—one that often feels impossible to meet. We’re told to fit into a mold that wasn’t made for us.
But here’s the truth: God didn’t create us to fit into a mold. He created us uniquely, intentionally, and wonderfully.
You Are Wonderfully Made
Psalm 139:14 reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. God didn’t make a mistake when He designed you. Your brain, talents, and quirks are all part of His perfect plan.
Yet, it’s hard to embrace this truth when the world tells us otherwise. Neurodivergent individuals often struggle with self-esteem, not because they lack worth, but because they’ve been told—directly or indirectly—that they don’t measure up.
Redefining Beauty
Beauty isn’t about fitting in. It isn’t about looking like someone else or meeting an impossible standard. Beauty is found in kindness, resilience, and authenticity.
Think about the people you admire most. Is it their perfect skin, flawless hair, or social status that draws you to them? Or is it their strength, compassion, and ability to shine despite their struggles?
If God calls us His marvelous creation, who are we to argue?
Embracing Your Reflection
The mirror may never tell you what you want to hear. But it doesn’t define you. You are more than a reflection. You are a child of God, handcrafted with purpose.
Play a song that lifts you up the next time self-doubt creeps in. I’m inspired by Beautiful by Snoop Dogg. (Go ahead, give it a listen: Beautiful – Snoop Dogg)
Stand in front of the mirror and remind yourself:
🌿 I am wonderfully made.
🌿 I am loved.
🌿 I am enough.
And that’s a truth no mirror can change.
