Everyone needs a friend like “C.” She is smart, kind, and faithful. Most of all, she is an activist. She has dedicated her personal and professional life to fighting the giants of injustice. When she calls, I answer.
I’m not sure about her feelings about the Bible, but she reminds me of the story of David and Goliath.
Here’s the story. The Israelites were at war with the Philistines, and things looked bad. Their greatest enemy wasn’t just the army—it was one man, a giant named Goliath. He was massive, strong, and terrifying.
Every day, he taunted the Israelites, daring someone to fight him. No one dared. That is, until David, a young shepherd, stepped up. Armed with just a slingshot and five smooth stones, he faced the giant head-on. With one well-aimed shot, he took Goliath down.
David didn’t have the strength of a warrior, but he had courage, faith, and the conviction to stand up against oppression. That’s exactly what I see in C. She’s not one to back down from a fight—especially regarding justice.
She may not wield a slingshot, but she has the power of words, action, and relentless determination. Just like David, she refuses to let fear stop her. She stands up to the giants of inequality, discrimination, and systemic injustice with boldness and grace.
If she had a theme song, it would be Public Enemy’s Fight the Power. The lyrics challenge us to resist oppression, to speak out, and to fight for what’s right. That’s what C does every day. She’s in the trenches, calling out the Goliaths of our time and daring to take them down.
We all have giants to face. Maybe they aren’t towering warriors on a battlefield, but they are just as real—fear, injustice, doubt, or even the systems that try to hold people back. Like David, like C, we can stand up. We can fight back. We can make a difference.
So, what’s your Goliath? And how will you fight the power?
